We now know that well over 60 percent of visits to a doctor are for stress-related conditions. Managing stress and building long-term resiliency are scientifically proven to improve healthcare outcomes and quality of life. Join us, and learn how powerful new scientific understandings in mindbody medicine will change the face of health care and help us address some of the world’s greatest public health challenges. This course will incorporate didactic lectures, panel presentations, Q & A sessions and workshops designed to develop knowledge and practical skills for working with patients.

This course is intended for physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, counselors, educators and other health professionals who provide direct patient care or patient education in areas of self management, lifestyle behaviors and mind-body medicine.
Course Location
The 2024 Herbert Benson, MD Course in Mind Body Medicine will be held in-person at the Fairmont Copley in Boston, MA and via live stream. All talks will be recorded and participants may view them for up to 60 days.
The Benson Course in Mind Body Medicine
The Herbert Benson, MD Course in Mind Body Medicine will be held October 31 – November 2, 2024 at the Fairmont Copley Hotel in Boston, MA and via live stream. Held in conjunction with Harvard Medical School, the course provides hundreds of clinicians and mind body practitioners from across the globe an opportunity to explore cutting-edge research, share best practices and discover new strategies for treating patients. Keynote speakers are Katarina Blom, PhD, Chris Palmer, MD, Martin Picard, PhD and David R. Williams, PhD, MPH, M. Div.
BHI is also offering course participants two optional, half-day workshops, Mind Body Approaches to Weight Management and Group Medical Visits to Guide Patients to Healthier Lifestyle Behaviors, which will be held via live stream on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
“Dr. Benson pioneered a new area of research; he came to understand that to maximize our patients’ chances of achieving health and wellness, we physicians, nurses and caregivers needed to help them advance their self-care,” said BHI Director Gregory Fricchione, MD. “This course is designed to provide the latest in research and practicum experience to mind body practitioners from around the world.”
About the Course
The Herbert Benson, MD Course in Mind Body Medicine will focus on the latest research into the links between mind/brain and body and how the human being functions as a unit. Evidence-based practices that help us deal with stress related non-communicable diseases will be highlighted. Attendees will be able to take part in meditation workshops, tai chi and yoga sessions, and build skills through interactive workshops and panel discussions that support stress reduction and the enhancement of resiliency. Topics include mind body approaches to sleep, nutrition and exercise; how narrative story telling can help patients reframe their sense of wellbeing; insight into our Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) program; integrative approaches to reducing burnout in healthcare providers; and the importance of self-care, among others.
